How the numbers are produced
Screening envelopes. Each method is checked against its accepted operating envelope — rate, depth,
temperature, deviation, gas, solids and viscosity — following the comparison framework of Clegg, Bucaram & Hein,
Recommendations and Comparisons for Selecting Artificial-Lift Methods (SPE 24834, JPT 1993), which remains the
reference every operator's own selection matrix descends from. Hard violations disqualify a method and are shown with
the number that broke the limit. Everything else is scored, never hidden.
Sizing. Rod pump displacement uses PD = 0.1166 · D² · S · N with 80% volumetric efficiency, fluid
load Fo = 0.433 · SG · H · Ap , and unit selection by peak polished rod load against API 11E
structural ratings. Rotating and jet equipment is sized from hydraulic power
HHP = q · TDH · SG / 135,700 divided by method efficiency. Gas lift injection requirement scales with
depth; compression is estimated at 22 BHP per MMscf/d per stage, three stages assumed. Plunger lift is gated on the
classic energy rule of ~400 scf of gas per barrel per 1,000 ft of lift.
Cost. Capital, workover and O&M figures are installed-cost bands for onshore North America scaled by the
computed equipment size, combined with run-life-driven replacement counts over the evaluation period. Lifting cost is
total ownership divided by lifetime liquid, at the method's typical uptime.
This is a screening prototype, not an engineering deliverable. Cost bands carry roughly ±40% uncertainty and no
quotation value. Sizing assumes the pump is set at the perforations with the dynamic level at the pump and no
inflow-performance or nodal analysis; a real design needs a well test, PVT data and a licensed engineer's sign-off.
Supplier names are public market participants shown to illustrate matching — no commercial relationship
is stated or implied.
Where the well library comes from. Each entry is a representative well ticket for that
basin or field — the rates, depths, temperatures, fluid properties and site conditions an engineer there would
recognise as typical, together with the lift methods actually run in the area. It is a starting point for screening,
not a measurement of any particular well: every number on the page is recomputed from whatever stands in the form, so
replace them with a real well test as soon as you have one. Power and fuel-gas prices follow the local market or the
regulated tariff, which is why the same well ranks differently in Alberta and in Kuwait.
Where the supplier directory comes from. Companies are listed by what they manufacture, package, distribute or
service, and by the regions where they have a manufacturing or service footprint — not by where their product could
be shipped. Every company on this page was reached at its own website when the data was last built, and the check
rejects a domain that answers but is parked, belongs to somebody else, or has been folded into a parent — which is
how Alberta Oil Tool now resolves to ChampionX and CSI Compressco to Kodiak. The list is deliberately wider than the
majors: a directory that leaves out the regional manufacturer who actually services the field is of no use to a buyer.
